A koi pond and water garden

A naturalistic koi pond with proper filtration, a timber deck that floats over the water and lush marginal planting, all in a family garden.

Koi pond with a small waterfall, ferns and mossy rocks

The Ramans had always wanted koi, but they had heard the horror stories about green water, dead fish and mosquitoes. A pond only works if the filtration and depth are designed properly from day one.

We designed a naturalistic pond, deep enough to stay cool in the afternoon heat, with a bottom drain feeding a multi-chamber filtration system hidden behind the planting. A small stream and waterfall keep the water moving, and a timber deck steps out over the pond so the family can sit right above the fish.

Water lilies, lotus and marginal plants soften the edges and help to keep the water clear. We check the water quality every month as part of a care plan.
